HISTORY
he Artisans Association of San Juan, was founded on January 3rd of 1988, with the project name The Artisans of San Juan, on the initiative of a group of weavers in the town Tzutujil Maya of San Juan La Laguna in the Department of Solola , who requested the help of an American visitor named Liana Ward, to look for export markets where their tissues. Liana supported in the organization of the group and designing clothes that liked to visitors or travelers and foreign markets with agreement that the proceeds from the sales will go to benefit the people to improve the health and education of children. With this agreement Liana got donations to start the project.
The November 28, 1990, the partnership acquired its legal status as Government Agreement No. 1198 90, published in the Official Journal of Guatemala on January 17, 1991, denominating since then as Artisans Association of San Juan. For non-profit status and the support provided to low-income families. Currently has 100 associates.
With the financial support of international organizations, the Association was able to construct its own building with basic facilities of drinking water and electricity, this being the seat of it. The spouses of the members contributed their labor to construct the building.
